Cheesy Baked Mac and Cheese

It’s ok to cheat on your diet every now and then. Definitely if it’s for Mac and cheese. I believe a guilty pleasure for everyone is Mac and cheese. It’s something about all the carbs and cheese in one dish, no one can seem resist. One of the easiest side dishes to make if you are needing to feed a lot of people for just a family dinner or a holiday meal. A great thing about this dish you can try it with many different cheeses. So experiment and have fun with it.

Ingredients

  • Box of Barilla Casarecce

  • 1 cup of sour cream

  • 3/4 heavy whipping cream

  • 3 tbsp of butter

  • 1 1/2 cup of milk

  • 1 1/2 of sharp cheddar

  • 1 cup of shredded mozzarella

  • 1/2 cup of seasoned bread crumbs

Step by step

  1. Preheat oven to 350

  2. Get a large pot out and fill with water. Add about 2 tbsp of salt to the water and bring to a boil.

  3. Once the water comes to a boil add your box of Barilla Casarecce. This will take 12 minutes to cook the pasta. Stir occasionally so the pasta doesn't stick together or stick to the bottom of the pot.

  4. Get a small pot add 2 tbsp of butter and bring to a medium heat.

  5. Once your butter has melted add in 1 cup of milk, 1 cup of sour cream, and 3/4 cup of heavy whipping cream. You are going to want to constantly stir until all ingredients are combined. This will take about 3 to 5 minutes.

  6. After you got those ingredients combined you will want to add in both of your shredded cheeses. Save alittle bit of each to sprinkle on the top. Constantly stir to combine all the cheese in.

  7. Keep on a low heat until your pasta is ready. Stir every now and then to make sure it doesn’t stick to the bottom.

  8. You pasta should now be done. Get out a colander and place in sink. Pour your pasta in (Trick: do not rinse pasta in water like I stated in my other pasta dish. My father told me I told you guys incorrectly. You are not a suppose to rinse with water as it takes away the starch out of the pasta. What you want to do is toss in olive oil so the pasta doesn’t stick together. My father sells Barilla pasta for a living so I am definitely going to take his advice when it comes to cooking pasta.)

  9. Take out a 9x9 casserole dish and spray with cooking spray.

  10. Pour your pasta into the casserole dish and then pour your cheesy mixture over the top. Mix together until the cheese is all over the pasta.

  11. Pour the remaining 1/2 cup of milk over the Mac and cheese. And sprinkle the remaining cheese over the top.

  12. In a small sauce pan melt 1 tbsp on butter. Once melted pour your 1/2 cup of bread crumbs into butter and mix. You are wanting to coat the bread crumbs evenly and get them a little toasted. This will take about 5 minutes.

  13. Once done pour over your Mac and cheese. Place tinfoil over the casserole dish and place in oven for 10 minutes.

  14. After 10 minutes take tinfoil off and put back into oven for another 10-15 minutes until your bread crumbs are cooked.

  15. Take out of plate up, Enjoy!
